Heresy of 119 Ministries

A few of the heresies of 119 Ministries.  They are teachers of the Hebrew Roots cult. From their video “What is the Gospel, part 1”

“The message in the instructions of Christ is also taught in the week of unleavened bread.  It is to ‘follow me’ or, TO PUT IT ANOTHER WAY, since he was the Word of God in the flesh, He is saying ‘Live in obedience to the commandments.'”

“We are to walk as He walked, which is the Torah, the law of God.”

“There is no imputing of righteousness on those that do not practice walking in obedience to the commandments.”

“Faithfulness to God means walking in obedience to the commandments…so if the gospel reveals the righteousness of God, then the Gospel must be the message of the Scripture which tells us to obey the commandments.”

“The righteousness of God as taught by the Torah is one and the same as the righteousness that Paul preached.”

“The righteousness that was revealed through the law at Mt Sinai, is the righteousness by faith that Paul is speaking of….Righteousness is obtained by faithful obedience to the Creator.”

“Salvation is by faithfulness, obedience to the commandments and life is obtained by obedient fidelity to the Lord.”

These statements were made by twisting, isolating, retranslating, and outright lying about New Testament verses. 119 Ministries truly appear as sheep, but inwardly are ravening wolves.

  1. Pastor Mike, Thank You for keeping us biblically informed. As I have always taught in my Sunday School class, the biggest mission field is in the so called “church.” The American church is rampant with heresy because it is planting a corrupt seed, which can only yield corrupt fruit. I pray for you daily, my brother, as one of the few who will stand unashamedly on the Word of God and proclaim its truth. Thank You and may God Bless You and your ministry.

  2. I am not Jew and they can say, all that desire to. I am glad you are exposing them for their true color..Indeed, they are wolves in sheep’s clothing…Love ya Mike

  3. I just read through Galatians and thought to myself that whoever is teaching these beliefs must be trying very hard to keep their followers out of the New Testament, not unlike the Catholic Church did for hundreds of years. I could quote verses, but really the whole epistle explains law vs. grace so it isn’t even necessary. Pastor Mike, I really don’t see how genuine Christians can take issue with you over this. People just have no tolerance for speaking the truth anymore.

    1. Sorry, this is my first post on your blog and I thought it was letting me edit my first comment. Didn’t mean to repeat myself.

  4. My daughter just asked me about 119 Ministries recently and wanted to know what I thought. I tried to find out a little info on them but was not able to. I had this past week listened to Pastor Mikes two part series on the Sacred Name and Hebrew Roots Movement, so I shared them with her. I myself was struggling with some issues regarding Hebrew Roots people as I have several with whom I am friends with on fb. Watch Pastor Mikes videos resolved many of my concerns and helped me to realize that these groups are deceiving so many today. Paul warned the Galatains about the Judiizers deceptive doctrines regarding the simplicity of faith in Jesus Christ. Thanks Pastor Mike for your in depth study on this important topic……. Your In Christ, Barbara

    1. hebrew roots folks are not trying to be jewish or rabbinical. our savior came against these people. he came to fulfill the torah, not to abolish it. read his words for yourself. 119 ministies encourages everyone to test what they say. don’t take their word for it, and that includes your pastor. dan

      1. Dan you are incorrect. Christ not only fulfilled the law, but it’s condemnation on those who believe has been abolished. The Jew does not realize this. And apparently, neither does Staley or 119 ministries.
        2 Corinthians 3:7-17 KJV
[7] But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: [8] How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? [9] For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. [10] For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. [11] For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious. [12] Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: [13] And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: [14] But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. [15] But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. [16] Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. [17] Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is , there is liberty.

  6. Definately slick wolves. 119 addes up to 11 interestingly enough. Would love to hear a future message on Hebrew roots, very deceptive cult. God bless Pastor!

    1. 119 is so named after Psalm 119… and yes that adds up to 11…. which is the Biblical number of “Those Who Escape.” Its first appearance is… 11 sons of Jacob “escaped” the wrath of Esau… In the N/T 11 disciples “escaped” to become the apostles… and the point is?

  7. Dear Pastor Mike, I was searching for truth (looking everywhere) I started going to a small church about five years ago. We had a lady Pastor then. She was very good, but then i asked why we don’t keep the sabbath. She had no answeres, (Anger came out of her) lots of anger. She said we should be going to the seventh day adventist church, that basically we were no longer welcome. So we looked into the doctrine of the seventh day adventist, They seemed Up and Up on the word of the Lord. We since have moved and there is no adventist church around us. So i started watching the religious channel with Kenneth Copland, Joyce Meyers etc…It wasn’t enough. I started searching youtube and Really reading my bible, i then came across 119 ministries i really thought i had found the truth. I started lookin at moon fazies etc…Then the Lord directed me to watch your videos on youtube…God is good…Matthew 7:7 God is so true to his word ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find Knock and the door will be opened. I praise the Lord for your ministries you have helped me to recognize wolves in sheeps clothing. Since i have been watching your ministries i have been looking more in depth of the practices of the seventh day advent and realize how sudtle they are in teaching the word of Ellen G. white (their prophet) We have since thrown out all excess literature and read only the King James Bible.
QUESTION? I still keep Saturday as my day i spend with God, reading my bible and watching, the watchman video broadcast in my heart i do not do this out of works, i am only saved by the Grace of God. So am i doing right biblically ??? I am trying to find a church in our area that teaches the King James bible. Your teaching is awsome and has opened my eyes to the truth of the words of our True God in Heaven. Where can i send my donation and also receive some of your videos…Thank you and God Bless your Church.

    1. Peggy, you can type in http://www.Bethelchurch.com (pastormikeHoggard), and you should be able to see a lot of sites there that will lead you to his Bethel Church website. when you get to his website you will be able to find a lot of his recent and older video’s there. I hope this will help you find what you are looking for, all of Pastor Mike’s video’s are just GREAT! I started watching him about 7 months ago, and I am hooked. I am currently watching his series on Living with the Philistines 6 parts to this series. Oh! one more thing when you get to the website you should be able to locate where to send in your donation. May God Bless You Always.

  8. Yes they are a false group. Meaning they teach false doctrine.

One way I’ve found to spot a HR movement follower is the language they use when referring to God and Jesus. They use the names Yehovah(pronounced with a Yah) for God and Yeshua for Jesus.

Is there anything wrong withthis? No but it is a way to tell a HR person. It sounds funny when I hear a non-Jewish person using these terms.

    1. Bob, saying or implying that everyone in the HR movement is wrong, lost or in error is like saying all that call themselves “Christians” are saved. Really? That’s a pretty broad brush… And truly “Jesus should sound pretty weird to us. It is Latin not English. We would actually rightly call the Lord “Joshua” in our language. And I do not personally believe calling our Jewish Messiah (Jesus) Yeshua or Yashua… or more likely correct Yahusha is wrong. In fact it makes a very important point… He chose to be born a Jew… He was killed as the rightful King of the Jews. He was resurrected as a Jew. He is returning to Jerusalem as the King of the Jews… specifically “The Lion of the Tribe of Judah.” Jesus himself said, “Salvation is of the Jews.” He is our “root” and He is Hebrew/Jewish. While I could be wrong… I suspect He will be called by His Hebrew name when He rules from Jerusalem… it just seems… natural to me.

    1. Thanks for the comment Noelle. I always find it interesting how the Spirit moves in many… in how they respond. You have said, “He who has ears, let them hear.” You have no idea what a very special comment you have made to me here. It is used 17 times in the N/T. “17” is the Scriptural number of “The Sons of God.” This links “the Sons of God” to “He who has ears to hear.” They are one and the same. It is found in: Jesus’ teaching (Mat 11:14-15) of John the Baptist as the Elijah to come (Reveals Him as the Coming One of Mal 4:4-6 – Compare it to Lk 1), The Parable of the Good Soil (Mat 13:9, Mk 4:9, Lk 8:8 – Receiving and Keeping Truth), The Parable of the Tares (Mat 13:43 – False Followers among the True), Forsaking All to Follow (Mat 14:35), The Parable of the Lamp (Mk 4:23 – Teaching Truth), The Seven Letters of Revelation (Rev 2:7 – 3:22 – Overcoming from within the Church) and The Mark of the Beast (Rev 13:9 – The Punishment of Rebellion).

The Lord led me in this study of “ears to hear” many years ago and while there is a bunch more to it than this… know that the words you spoke were a needed blessing to me… and I believe… directly from Him.

Be blessed in all your ways and in every day Noelle… ’till He comes again. Love Truth… in so doing you are loving Him… He is “The Truth!” Most of all… may He grant to you always… “Ears to Hear.” Michael

  9. I’m trying to share these quotes with my friends who follow 119 Ministries. Could you specify the times where the above quotes appear in the video?

    1. My bad, they might have said that it following Torah would save you, but I’m not 100% sure. Please provide the number minute from the video as evidence so I can view it. Thanks, pastor mike. May God be with you. Shalom.

  10. I agree with you Michael, very well said, test everything as we are commanded! I am amazed at the number of hungry people learning the Hebrew roots of their Messiah then understanding the NT even fuller! It is a joy to watch!

    1. Thank you Noelle! If you think about it… the first Protestant Reformation resulted from the Bible becoming available to the people and in their language. A second and final reformation has now begun as the original Hebrew and Greek texts have become available with the tools to understand them. For the first time the average person can read the original and see for themselves where translators may have altered the meaning and added words to the original texts to conform to their theology at the time. Like Paul, we are discovering the current “traditions of the (Church) fathers” (Gal 1:14) vs. the Pure Word of God (Ps 12:6). When we have believed a certain thing and trusted that what we were taught was truth… changing is never easy. It requires great humility and a genuine love of truth above all else.

      Blessings Noelle!

  11. Michael, I think you sum it up very well.

I became a Christian about 35 years ago. Since coming to the faith, I was primarily brought up in the Assemblies of God. Through those years, there were many questions I have had regarding the faith to which no one could give an answer that seemed to make any sense.

About 5 years ago, I began to travel down a road in search of the truth. I had to know for myself why I believed what I believed and not because that was what I was taught by the pastors and teachers in my life. It seemed to me that everything I was taught was biased.

Ministries like Passion for Truth and 119 Ministries are Christ-Like in the humble approach and is evident and can be seen in the fruit they bare. When they present the truth as they see it in scripture, they follow in Jesus’ steps in presenting it in a very humble way. Unlike other ministers of the Gospel that almost appear to be like ravenous wolves. These other ministers of the Gospel are very quick to show their true nature in the way they present themselves just like a wolf venomously biting and ripping into the flesh of other believers.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:22-26

    1. Any searching believers would really appreciate Rabbi Greg Hershberg at Beth Yeshua International in Macon, GA. He is one of a kind & a true man of God!

  12. Mike Hoggard, I have 3 concerns/questions I would like to ask you, if you don’t mind. Do you observe and celebrate Sunday, Easter and Christmas? If you do, I think you will be very interested in my next response. Shalom

      1. My response was only available with his response to my comment. I’m pretty sure I already know the answer to my concerns/questions directed to him.

  13. ever since I found out the good Friday could not be the crucifixion day ..because jesus / yeshua said he would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights .the math does not work. you cannot get three nights . even if its been tradition for 2000 years .that means Christian academia cant count to three and now I have to test every thing . the almighty says he does nothing unless he reveals it to his servants the prophets .the prophets correctly reveals coming judgement souther and northern tribes in advanced and the coming of messiah to every detail . but they don’t reveal a time when the law (instructions ) would be done away with .Isaiah says his word is forever and david says Gods law is a light unto his path….so …forever is not forever and the light is now on the wrong path ..does make Isaiah and david a false prophet ?…..this worrys me , please test this with me

    1. Bravo Jeff! I applaud your heart! Love truth and reject every lie which does not conform to the truth. However, this is not unlike striking the first domino… I found it had a progressive cascading effect. Here is a BIG one for you to check out and you are on the path to do this. God does NOTHING which He has not revealed through His prophets. (Amos 3:7) Now, go look at the “New Covenant” (Mat 26:28; Mk 14:24; Lk 22:20 – which is actually a “RENEWED COVENANT” as the Greek is “kaineos” (Renew) and not “neos” (New). Now compare this with Jeremiah 31:31. This is the ONLY prophecy of a “New Covenant” in all of Scripture. This is therefore the ONLY prophecy Jesus can be fulfilling in Mat, Mk and Lk. (The Hebrew is Chadash=Renew STR #2318). Now, look at WHO the covenant is made with in Jer 31:31. If YOU are to be a part of this covenant, YOU must be in one of the two groups Jeremiah speaks of… there are no options. Also, the “Ecclesia” (Greek=Church) in the NT is the “Qahal” (Hebrew=Church) in the O/T. They are all one and the same. And the “Qahal” is always Israel in the O/T. Be blessed Jeff! And BTW… He was crucified on a Wednesday Afternoon and in the tomb before sundown = (Day 1) or the Passover would have been desecrated and void. He was in the tomb Wednesday Evening (Night 1), Thursday Morning (Day 2), Thursday Evening (Night 2), Friday Morning (Day 3), Friday Evening (Night 3) and a rose on the Sabbath (Saturday) before sunrise (Day 4). This is WHY Jesus says He is “LORD OF THE SABBATH.” (Mat 12:8; Mk 2:28; Lk 6:5) and the prophecy is 3 Days followed by 3 nights (3 periods of daylight, followed by 3 periods of no-light – in that order). This makes Ishtar (A Fertility Goddess we know as Easter) Sunday and Sunday worship an error as well. Like I said… domino’s Jeff… are you ready for truth? I pray you are!

      1. It’s uncomfortable & frustrating to re-learn what you thought you knew! But He is a patient & loving Abba! Happy Hanukkah! Rededicating myself to the Light of the World!

      2. Dear Noelle… it certainly is. It can be not only frustrating; but, I personally know some of the anger over this. I trusted that the people with the theological degrees had verified and confirmed that what was being taught was “the truth” and was translated correctly from the Hebrew and Greek into English. However, this is just simply not the case. There are clear intentional mistranslations in our English Bibles. Here is a good one for you to check-out. John 1:17 “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” This is one of the foundational Scriptures used to show the separation between “the Law” and “Grace.” However, this is not what is written in the original Greek text. First, the word “but” has been added and does not exist anywhere in the original text… and the original word order has been changed by the translators and remains uncorrected to this day. A word by word translation of John 1:17 in the Greek actually reads… “For the Law through Moses gave grace and the truth through Jesus Christ came.” Read that again! The Holy Spirit through John tells us plainly that “The Law” = “Grace” and “the Truth” (of the Law) came through Jesus Christ. Remember, He was “the Word” (the Tanakh) which “became flesh” and He was filled with “Grace and Truth.” (John 1:14) John 1:17 then reveals that the “Grace” Jesus was filled with… was in fact “the Law of Moses!” That is the context of the verse. We have all been taught that there is no grace in the Law. But, that is not what John 1:17 says! It say’s the Law = Grace. That is what is called a game-changer!

        Blessings… Michael

  14. I LOVE 119 Ministries. I started following the Torah by reading it myself and comparing it from the Old Testament to the New Testament. I started finding out these things by reading the Old and New Testaments at the same time and comparing them. It is amazing and freeing how great the Law of Moses truly is. YHVH has laid this on my heart heavily, and I have been doing many months of research. It really is freeing to follow and obey His laws. Yeshua followed all the laws of Moses, and He happily followed the feast days. My question is, if the law of Moses are “abolished” then why did Yeshua follow all of them and we are supposed to be examples of Yeshua? Why did his apostles along with hundreds even thousands of people continue to follow the laws of Moses after He was resurrected? Why did Paul say that he loved and had joy in following these laws? The Acts experience happened during the day of Pentecost. They were still following the law of Moses. Why does it say in Zacheriah and Ezekiel that in the last days, no one would follow the Law and no one would follow the feast days, but when Yeshua comes back to rule 1,000 years, we will ALL be following the feast days and keeping the Sabbath?
For everyone saying that 119 ministries is sheep in wolves’ clothing, I dare you to TEST EVERYTHING. Do not just go by 119 ministries or this pastor. Grab the Bible, and research it for yourself. There is so much beauty in the context. Please read and research so when you meet the Father you have something more to say then, “My pastor told me so,” or “I saw it on Youtube.” That will make you feel ashamed at that point. If I am wrong, then I am wrong, but I can at least say I did my research through the Bible instead of having 119 ministries or my pastor explain it for me.
    God bless
